– Hey, guys, it’s Nate here with PlayYourCourt.com, and today we’re gonna talk about the position of your feet and how it can actually help with your kick serve and your slice serve. Alright guys, so today we’re talking about the positioning of our feet, and how it can help with our kick serve and slice serve. This video is for PlayYourCourt ratings of 79 and above. And if you’re not familiar with our community, it’s the equivalent of a 4.0 USTA. Alright, guys, we know that when we get into our service position that we’re always sideways, and ideally our toes are lined up to the far right net post, as a righty. And this would be true on both sides, whether I went to the ad court or the deuce court. As a lefty, it would be the opposite. But what many of us don’t know is that the way that we line our feet up, can actually help with our kick serve and our slice serve. For instance, for a slice serve, I’m going to take my back foot, my right foot being a righty, and I’m going to edge it up ever so slightly. And what this is gonna help me do is get more on the outside of the ball, by allowing my hip to come around further around into the court, alright? You might be asking yourself, won’t my opponent know if I step up to the line and I suddenly start making adjustments with my feet? Maybe. They’d have to be really aware of what’s happening. But what you can also do is make it very subtle, going through your position of just sliding the foot up as you get up to the trophy position and then finishing, and they won’t know until the serve has gone by them. Alright, so let’s talk about the kick serve. How does the foot positioning help with the kick serve? We’re actually gonna do the opposite now. And what I’m showing you is more of a platform stance. You can also do this from a pinpoint stance. For this video, we’ll go platform. And platform here, you’ll notice that I’m still got my toes lined up to the post, but what I’m gonna do now, is I’m going to take my back foot, and I’m going to drag it back several inches. And what this is going to allow me to do is to get more parallel with the baseline so that my back is facing the court. ‘Cause we know that on a kick serve, my main goal is to really get the ball back over my head, so I’m tossing back, but I really wanna make sure that I’m hitting up on the ball, going parallel with the baseline. And by sliding my foot back, this is gonna help me do it. So some of you guys may be trying to hit kick serves, and your foot’s way up here, well this is gonna open my hips, and it’s gonna make me uncoil much, much faster. So next time you’re on the court, play with some of these positions with your feet and see if they don’t help you with a slice serve out wide, and the kick serve T. I think if you implement this small change with your footwork, you’re gonna find that your slice serve and your kick serve improves quite a bit.
