Is your life hectic, stressful, and full of chaos?
I can feel the overwhelming number of affirmative nods…
Don’t fret, because everyone is in the same boat. No matter what, there will always be external factors preventing you from having a peaceful day; work deadlines, social media, children, household chores–even your running mind!
How do we overcome this?
Be present.
If you need to focus on an urgent task at work, instead of stressing out about the million things you need to do and how you don’t have enough time to do them, focus completely on that one task. Now there is only that one task and you. Once you finish, you can move on to the next task.
How does this apply to tennis?
How many times have you been up in the first set 5-2, 40-0, only to lose the set? Or you double faulted to lose a big game?
It happens a lot in tennis (ask any avid player), but we have a tendency to keep thinking about those critical points and moments well after they have passed. No matter what you do, you can’t change what has happened. So instead of dwelling on what could have been, think about what could be. Focus on the point at hand.
Being present becomes a way to handle any problem, any distraction, or any stressor. It allows everything else to fade away, leaving only you and whatever you’re dealing with at the current moment.
Dare to be present.
